A Mischief Of Magpies

If the Sun were the size of a beach ball then Jupiter would be the size of a golf ball and a Mischief of Magpies would be as small as a pea.

The Hindenburg Disaster

The Liberal Review has just brought my attention to the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill.

This innocuous sounding piece of legal administration is being proposed to

enable provision to be made for the purpose of reforming legislation and implementing recommendations of the Law Commission, the Scottish Law Commission and the Northern Ireland Law Commission; to make provision about the exercise of regulatory functions; to make provision about the interpretation of legislation relating to the European Communities and the European Economic Area; to make provision relating to section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972; and for connected purposes.

In other words, it would give ministers the power to introduce or amend legislation without having to go through all the inconveniece of convincing a bunch of stroppy MPs. Which would make the next general election as significant as the last vote for your local parish council.

You can read the details of the debate here.

Just when I thought King Tony couldn't get any worse. Why not just cut to the chase and abolish elections?

'King Tony' is a very accurate name for him. He certainly seems to think that he has a divine right to rule.
